A rare weaving attributed to the Djebel Amour tribe, located in Algeria close to the border with eastern Morocco along the Saharan Atlas. Although the tribe is of Arab origin and has been inhabiting the region since at least the Middle Ages, it later coalesced with the Berbers from that area.
The pattern consists of a repeat of a red diamond element with appendages on a dark blue background. The wool is particularly silky as is typical of tribal weavings originating from high pastures.
