Swedish modern tapestry. The pattern is called “Nattviol” (Butterfly Orchid) and is a part of the series “Juniblommor” (Flowers in June), composed 1928 by AB Märta Måås-Fjetterström. The material is wool and linen and was made in the 1940s.
Märta Måås-Fjetterström (1873-1941), considered to be one of the greatest textile artists in Sweden. She founded her studio in the southern part of Sweden, Båstad, in 1919. Here, artisan weavers learned to interpret Måås-Fjetterström’s many watercolor sketches into hand-woven masterpieces of ‘rölakan’ – flat weave rugs, wall hangings and tapestries of exceptional quality and craftsmanship. Märta Måås-Fjetterström’s work has been exhibited in the Louvre, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Nationalmuseum in Stockholm amongst others.
