Louis XV Gilded Friezes Volute Carving Ex Cimase Mirrors, 1700s, Set of 2

Pair of Friezes Louis XV Gilded 1700 Volute Intaglio Ex Cimase Mirrors Pair of Italian Gilded Friezes circa 1750 Volute Intaglio, Rococo foliate motifs, gilded in gold leaf on an Armenian red bole preparation. These are most probably the cyma bases of antique mirrors, gilded in fine gold leaf on an Armenian red bole preparation. The curly feet are in fact an addition after the transformation, and are therefore later. Despite the complexity of the typical Rococo decorative motif, it is a right and a left, i.e. the carvings mirror each other. This pair of gilded Rococo ornaments can be used as door friezes or as simple ornamental wall decorations. Of Italian provenance, they were purchased in a villa in Milan and are in good condition, with minimal gilding defects and restorations.
