Pair of sconces “Lantern” wall lamps in rattan and bamboo, in the style of Louis Sognot. Made in Italy in the 1960s. A wonderful example of midcentury craftsmanship, where bamboo and rattan are perfectly blended. It’s a gorgeous piece for a midcentury outdoor project. Bamboo / rattan has been polished by a professional restorer. New electrical system, they are wired for the United States or Europe and operate on 110 or 220 Volts. Louis Sognot was a French designer best known for his elegant furniture made from a combination of rattan and wood. Sognot was influenced by Art Deco and Cubist aesthetics, giving his work a unique stylistic touch while still being usable. Born on May 25, 1892 in Paris, France, Sognot studied at École Bernard-Pablissy before working as a designer at the Au Printemps department store in Paris in 1919. The designer became a founding member of the Union des Artistes Decoroteurs. He died in 1970 in Paris, France.
