This Ikat textile originates from the Island of Sumba, Indonesia. It is hand-woven using naturally dyed yarns via a method passed on through generations. It features a stunning array of tribal patterns and motifs. Unique to this piece are the gecko figures and overall style which is distinctive of tribes on the sastern side of Sumba island. It is the women of Sumba who are gifted with the skills and patience to craft these wonderful textiles. Ikats are known to take many months sometimes years to complete. A very elaborate and detailed piece of craftsmanship.
