Ico Parisi was an Italian architect and designer. Born Domenico Parisi in 1916 in Palermo, Italy, he was involved in building construction and architecture in Como during his early adulthood. By the 1940s, Parisi took up filmmaking and began designing furniture in 1945, for which he would become most renowned. His designs are characterised by their Italian mid-century Modern aesthetic, constructed using soft woods often cut into boomerang-like shapes, augmented by metal slats and boldly coloured upholstery. His most prolific period was the two decades that preceded 1965, when he married and formed a design team with his wife, Luisa Aiani, in 1948. He studied architecture between 1949–1952 under Alberto Sartoris at the Institute Atheneum in Lausanne, Switzerland, and became a member of the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale in 1956. Parisi died in 1996.
High quality created by Ico Parisi in ash-wood with a craftsmanship and design. The design has both closed and open shelves, making it multifunctional.
The piece is comprised of a cupboard section attached to a shelving system by its side.
The cupboard contains four levels of shelves and two sliding doors. Of these, one is has a sculpted wooden finish in a fish scale pattern, and the texture has been maintained perfectly. This section also shows a lower horizontal hinge pull-out cabinet with the same finishing.
The second sliding door of the cupboard section, has a polished wood furnishing of a lighter tint. Therein there are four drawers with clear glass doors.
The cupboard section also holds a pull-out set of shelves on its corner.
The shelving section is divided into two parts. With cabinets placed asymmetrically, with even wooden doors, and two smaller wood sculpted drawers.
Placed on the right side of the shelving section are placed the iconic wooden elements that are the signature style of Ico Parisi pieces, that bring this elaborate ensemble together.
The entire pieces has been maintained in splendid original condition and will be packaged with care when shipped.
It is a piece with a stately presence well suited for an office setting, or for the main foyer of a residential space. With its many storage elements it is as functional a piece as it is iconic. The aesthetic nuances exhibit the intricate thought process behind the realisation of this piece by Ico Parisi and boast of expert craftsmanship and attention to detail.
