A handsome Danish mid-century wingback chair, designed by furniture maker and designer Frits Henningsen (1889–1965), c. 1940’s. Both the proprietor of a furniture-making workshop with a team of cabinetmakers in central Copenhagen as well as the designer of his own products, Henningsen valued quality craftsmanship, ensuring his designs were handmade in line with traditional, labour-intensive methods from the 19th century. Setting himself apart from the younger designers of the period who preferred to work with modern, straight lines, Henningsen valued the soft curves characteristic of more traditional furniture of the centuries past, believing elegant furniture to lend itself to greater comfort and style. Featuring two-tone purple upholstery and a well-crafted, sturdy mahogany wood frame.
