Hansen, who studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, found his inspiration in 1948 during a bicycle trip to Skagen. The low farmhouses, open loading doors with a view of agricultural machinery in dark rooms, roof structures that were seen as geometric “grids” and whitewashed courtyards with black half-timbering were translated by Hansen into modern constructive flat painting of that time.
During the 1960’s Arne Hansen’s work was used by the important furniture manufacturer France & Son for their advertisement campains in the magazine ‘Mobilia’ The International Design Magazine focused on Scandinavian Furniture Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Art, Sculpture, and Industrial Design.
This Lithograph is a perfect example of Hansen’s early oeuvre, showing an abstract deep view (in several layers) of a barn in vivid colours of green and yellow and heavy black.
Signed with monogram ‘A L H’ lower left and in full lower right ‘Arne L. Hansen, 1959. 25/60 (= copy number #25 of only #60 copies printed).
