This Ikat textile originates from the Island of Flores, Indonesia. It is hand-woven using naturally dyed yarns via a method passed on through generations. It features a mix of tribal patterns as well as the Indonesian flag. There are also bird motifs which are common amongst Ikat textiles of the eastern provinces of Indonesia. This piece was likely crafted soon after Indonesia gained independence. Ikats are known to take many months to complete, a wonderful piece of craftsmanship.
